In August 2010 CEP awarded 526 scholarships to poor and disadvantaged children. The scholarships entailed the payment of school fees, school uniforms, bags, books and other school materials. The children of CEP's poorest clients were chosen to receive the scholarships. The scholarships were awarded in 5 ceremonies in Ho Chi Minh City, Bien Hoa, Tan An, My Tho and Cao Lanh. To further support the education of children living in poor communities, CEP distributed 200,000 school books and sets of pens in August to the children of CEP’s clients throughout the CEP branch network.
In August 2010 CEP, with the support of local authorities, awarded 18 houses to CEP's poorest clients and supported a further 20 clients to significantly upgrade their existing housing. The houses and upgrades were given to a small number of CEP's clients living in extreme poverty in non-permanent housing. Single parent families were prioritised. The homes were given to CEP's clients in each of the 6 provinces in which CEP operates.
In July 2010 CEP is looking to recruit 30 new staff (Vietnamese nationals only) for its branches in HCMC, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap and Tien Giang. In June 2010, CEP began a 2-year project with the support of Oikocredit to provide credit to the working poor of the Mekong Delta. This Project will assist CEP to significantly expand the outreach of both CEP’s existing and future branches located in the Mekong Delta.
In April 2010, CEP began a 5-year project with the HCMC Labour Confederation to provide housing improvement loans to poor and low-income workers in HCMC. This Project aims to improve the living conditions of poor and low-income workers by providing them with credit to make structural improvements to their housing, such as raising floors to prevent flooding, repairing roofing and making water and sanitation improvements.
In March 2010, CEP began a 5-year project with the support of the Rabobank Foundation to establish a new branch and extend its outreach to the rural poor of the Mekong Delta. This Project will assist CEP to better provide financial services to poor rural communities in the Mekong Delta region.
In January 2010, CEP opened a new branch in Tan An, Long An province. This branch is the fourth branch that CEP has opened in the Mekong Delta as CEP expands its microfinance activities in the region.

Children without parents that are being cared for by their grandparents or other relatives, and children with disabilities, were given priority. The scholarships were awarded in three ceremonies in Ho Chi Minh City, Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) and Cao Lanh (Dong Thap).

In July 2009, CEP opened a new branch in My Tho, Tien Giang province. This branch is the third branch that CEP has opened in the Mekong Delta as CEP seeks to expand its microfinance activities targeting the working poor further into the Mekong Delta. Initially the My Tho branch will focus on poor communities in the vicinity of My Tho before expanding into the surrounding districts.
In October 2008, CEP opened 2 new branches in Duc Hoa, Long An province and Long Thanh, Dong Nai province. These two branches are the 4th and 5th branches that CEP has opened outside HCMC and will enable CEP to better deliver its financial service and community development program to the working poor in the provinces outside HCMC.
In September 2008, CEP began a 5-year project with the support of the People's Committee of HCMC to provide credit to poor migrant workers in HCMC. This Project will assist CEP to provide more extensive services to poor migrants working in and around CEP's industrial and processing zones.
In August 2008, CEP began a 3-year project with the support of the Ford Foundation to expand its outreach outside HCMC. This Project will assist CEP to open new branches outside HCMC by providing training, capacity building support, facilities and funding for the loan portfolios of new CEP branches.
In June 2008 CEP completed the 7-year AusAID funded Microfinance Expansion Project. This Project permitted CEP to significantly scale up its operations and expand its outreach to all districts of HCMC. The Project also built the capacity of CEP to position it to be able to further extend its services to the poor in the provinces surrounding HCMC.
